MÁV Előre SC Sometimes graphic editing tasks in a project are at least as much work as the translation itself.
MÁV Előre SC is the oldest sports club in Székesfehérvár.
The task
DTP preparation
Graphic preparation, insertion, and layout of non-editable source materials (image files, scanned PDFs) and graphics into editable document formats
Terminology extraction
Extracting and translating project-specific terminology and aligning the final terminology with the client
Translation
Translation of a high-volume sports-specialist text from German into Hungarian within a short turnaround time
Challenges
DTP work on large volumes of poorly scanned source material required significant time and effort. The scanned materials contained illegible parts in several places, which had to be restored. The tight deadline required us to involve several specialist translators in the project, while ensuring the correct use of terminology and consistency. The coordination of the team of translators and checking their work required special attention from project management.
Solutions
We have improved the legibility of some of the original scans by re-digitizing parts of them. We divided the graphic editing and translation tasks into sub-tasks and assigned dedicated teams to work on them. We coordinated the tasks that could be done simultaneously, so we were able to meet our client's request to provide continuous delivery. The consistent use of terminology was ensured by the client-approved terminology database created at the beginning of the project with the help of computational tools. A language lead was also appointed who kept a constant eye on translators' work, checked all recorded terminology and followed up on translators' requests and questions.
Results
As a result of the well-organized processes, all documents were completed on time. Thanks to the language lead and the terminology database, we were able to ensure that the delivered texts were consistent both in terms of style and terminology. As a consequence of the careful preparation of the files, only minimal editing was required after translation. The graphic quality of some of the delivered materials was better than that of the original documents.
"We contacted EDIMART Language Solutions with German course materials written for professional coaches that we wanted to have translated. The texts contained a large amount of terminology specific to volleyball. The course material also included chapters on the physiology of training and strength training. The translated text is easy-to-understand, despite the fact that translating German expressions into Hungarian is not an easy task, since the two languages have completely different syntactic structures. The translation was well done, and the graphics look just like in the original documents. This professional material will be of great help to me in improving the work of the MÁV Előre Volleyball Department."
