DTP & Graphic Work for Publications

Pre-DTP

Before translation, we convert source materials into an editable, consistently manageable format. From scanned or non-editable documents, we create structured text that serves as the basis for translation and later revisions.

  • Text extraction from PDFs and scanned sources
  • AI-assisted text recognition and manual correction for hard-to-read documents
  • Standardizing styles, heading levels, and text structure
  • Preparing tables, captions, and recurring content elements

Best Applied To:

  • Only a scanned or non-editable PDF is available
  • The source text appears inside image files
  • The source documents use inconsistent formatting
  • The translations need to fit into a two-column layout

Rebuild

If no design package is available for complex publications or technical drawings, we rebuild an editable file from the existing PDF or other non-editable source. The goal is a stable master file that can reliably support future language versions, updates, and brand changes.

  • Creation of a print-ready InDesign package
  • Future modifications can be carried out efficiently
  • Rebuilding graphic elements, images, and tables
  • Any required format can be exported from the master file

Best Applied To:

  • The editable source file of the original publication is lost or unavailable
  • Only a printed or exported PDF remains
  • Older publications need to be revised, updated, or translated
  • A new master file is needed due to rebranding or content updates

Layout creation

We lay out the finished translation according to the requirements of the target language. We handle text expansion or contraction, reposition images and captions, and ensure the publication remains clear and visually polished in every language.

  • Adjustment of text boxes, columns, and page structure
  • Handling fonts, special characters, and language-specific features
  • Adapting images, figures, captions, and tables
  • Updating page numbers, tables of contents, and references

Best Applied To:

  • Multilingual catalogues, brochures, or publications need to be produced
  • The layout must be adjusted for longer or shorter target-language text
  • Technical, marketing, or corporate materials are being prepared in parallel versions
  • The material must work for both print and digital use

Layout check

Before publication, the completed layout is reviewed by a native-language specialist from both a linguistic and visual perspective. This is when issues surface that automation will miss: bad line breaks, overflowing text, misaligned captions, or inconsistent typographic solutions.

  • A native-speaking reviewer checks the final layout
  • Verification and correction of line breaks, hyphenation, and text overflow
  • Review of captions, figures, and visual consistency
  • Consideration of cultural conventions and nuances

Best Applied To:

  • Before publishing or sending high-visibility materials to print
  • Testing the user experience of localized software
  • When layout is handled in-house but an external quality check is needed
  • Complex marketing materials

We handle both standard and specialized graphic file formats
